Rootabaga – August 9, 2020

It’s pickle season! I’ve been trying out some new pickle recipes this summer including one for fermented dill pickles from the book Batch written by Joel MacCharles and Dana Harrison. It’s such a great resource that I have a copy here at home but they also have it at the Musquodoboit Harbour Public Library if you are looking for some new preserving recipes and techniques to try out this summer! There’s something about a COVID-19 fall/winter looming that really has me stocking the pantry and freezer, have you been doing this too? If you’re interested in purchasing any veggies/fruit in bulk for bigger batch items like salsa or jam let me know and I can definitely do that for you.

This week’s subscription includes, you guessed it! PICKLES! Well, not really, but pickling cucumbers, you’ll have to do the pickling part yourselves. While I love to try new recipes this one is my absolute favourite as a winter pantry staple for sandwiches, burgers, general snacking and they make a great addition to a Christmas Basket (yes it is time to start thinking about it!).
