Rootabaga – March 15, 2020

Well it has been an interesting week, to say the least. With the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market closing up indefinitely, it was a little more challenging than usual to get our local produce this Saturday, but we were able to meet up with all of our suppliers to make it work. Here’s hoping next week will come together okay as well. At this stage we are taking things day by day and I will make sure to send out an email to all of our subscribers if there is going to be an interruption in the weekly subscription. I would also like to remind everyone that you can pause your subscription at any time and we will resume whenever you are ready, so if you are in self isolation or would just rather not go out, please let us know.

On a more positive note, this is the first week for greenhouse grown tomatoes! I plan on slicing up my tomato for BBQ Hamburgers, because the sun is out and it’s really starting to feel like spring out there. St. Paddy’s Day is this week as well so I plan on making this Irish Fish Pie on Tuesday with some haddock we picked up this past week. Do you celebrate Paddy’s Day?

This week’s subscription includes:

Large Subscription:
Pea-Shoots – Grown organically by Snowy River Farm in Cooks Brook, NS
Cucumber – Greenhouse grown by Stokdijk Greenhouses in Truro, NS
Rutabaga (2lb) – Certified Organic, grown by Taproot Farms in Port Williams, NS
